Auckland's Best Landmarks

By Paula Earl-Peacock

Sky Tower

The Sky Tower undoubtedly offers the best views across the city and if you want an adrenalin fix, you can sky-walk or bungee off the side.  Sky Tower - SkyCity Auckland

Also, there’s Metita, a restaurant for special occasions, with 360 degree views.

Viaduct Harbour

The Viaduct Harbour refers to the waterfront marina in the heart of the city, a hub of restaurants, yachts and ferries.  You can buy an ice cream and wander about to look at the boats, walk across the bridge to the Wynyard quarter and Auckland’s Fish Market, enjoy a delicious meal, or board a ferry to a multitude of destinations in the Hauraki Gulf Viaduct Harbour

Civic Theatre

The Civic, built in 1929, is one of the few remaining atmospheric theatres in the world specifically designed as a 'movie palace'.  It is truly beautiful inside and these days it hosts a variety of shows and performances.  They occasionally offer 'behind the scenes tours' as well.  The Civic | Te Civic | Auckland Live

Mount Eden/Maungawhau

Another icon of Auckland, close to the city and Eden Park, our national sports stadium.  You can climb this extinct volcano (the tallest in Auckland) for panoramic views of the city. Maungawhau / Tūpuna Maunga Authority

Cornwall Park/One Tree Hill/Maungakiekie

For a peaceful interlude, visit this 400 acre, iconic park, about 20 minutes out of the city, by car.  Here you can wander through the trees, climb to the top of historic One Tree Hill, Maungakiekie to the monument there, with wonderful views all around Auckland. Cornwall Park
